Sources we use
In rough order of how much weight they get:
- The Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), 11th Edition with Revision 1, December 2025, cited by section and table
- FAA advisory circulars, mainly AC 150/5370-2G for construction on airports
- The 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design, OSHA regulations and the codes they reference
- Test standards and their published ratings: AASHTO MASH, ASTM F2656 and similar
- Manufacturers' published spec sheets, for sizes, weights and fill volumes
- Prices listed by U.S. sellers, always given as a range with the month we checked them
Each guide lists its main sources at the end. States and cities adopt their own MUTCD supplements and standard drawings, and those can be stricter than the national manual. When a guide says "the MUTCD", it means the national edition.
How we use AI tools
We use AI tools to help gather questions, outline guides and write first drafts. A draft is not a guide. A person checks every number, section reference and claim against the source, rewrites what's unclear and removes anything we can't back up before the guide is released to search engines.
What we don't do
We don't claim to have tested products we haven't tested, we don't publish reviews or ratings, and we don't use AI-generated product photos. Photos come from free libraries under licenses that allow it, credited under each image. Sign drawings are the public-domain drawings published with the MUTCD. Diagrams are our own and say what rule they show.
Prices
Prices are U.S. ranges in U.S. dollars from more than one seller, with the month they were checked. Freight, quantity and sheeting grade can move them a lot. Get quotes before you order.
Independence
No seller or manufacturer pays to appear in a guide, and we don't accept free products. When we name a brand, it's because it's common or useful as an example.
Updates and corrections
Guides show the date they were last changed, and we only change that date when the content changes. When a rule changes, such as a new MUTCD revision, we update the guides it touches. If you find an error, tell us; we fix confirmed errors and note significant corrections in the guide.
